Service Areas: Where and How Thrive Downtown Can Support You
Our service areas stretch from the downtown core to the far side of the Fraser River, and online across British Columbia. This guide brings them together in one place: the nine Vancouver neighbourhoods and seven nearby cities we have written local guides for, how in-person and online sessions work for each, how to get to 470 Granville Street by transit, how Thrive works, and where to find public support in your region. Every local page linked below goes deeper into its own streets, transit links and common concerns.
On this page
Wherever you live, the heart of our work stays the same: you make sense, you are not broken, and connection heals. We have supported clients from across the region since 2013.
How Our Service Areas Work: One Centre, Two Formats
Thrive has a single physical location, so our service areas are defined by two things: how easily you can reach our rooms, and whether online sessions suit you better.
- In person: spacious, one-of-a-kind therapy rooms at 470 Granville Street, Suites 518 and 901, steps from Granville SkyTrain Station and a short walk from Waterfront Station.
- Online: secure Zoom video sessions for clients anywhere in British Columbia.
- Both: many clients mix the two, meeting in person when they are downtown and online the rest of the time.
Our in-person counselling page describes the rooms and your first visit in detail.
Our Centre at the Heart of the Region
A downtown location has practical advantages. Granville Street sits close to where SkyTrain lines, the SeaBus, commuter rail and many bus routes meet, which means people from very different parts of the region can reach the same rooms without a car. For many clients, that convenience is what makes weekly therapy realistic.
It also means our therapists see people from a wide range of backgrounds and communities, which enriches the work. Our therapists practise together as a group and support one another, so no one works in isolation.
Vancouver Neighbourhoods in Our Service Areas
These are the Vancouver communities we serve with dedicated local guides, roughly ordered from closest to farthest from our door.
Downtown Vancouver
Our home base. Office workers, residents and students can walk over on a lunch break or before heading home, and commuters arriving at Waterfront or Granville Station are only minutes away. Read our downtown Vancouver counselling guide for tips on fitting therapy into a workday.
West End
Between Stanley Park and the core, the West End is a short walk away along Robson or Georgia Street, with buses on Davie, Denman and Robson as well. Our West End counselling guide focuses on loneliness, LGBTQIA+ affirming care and life transitions.
Yaletown
One Canada Line stop or an easy walk from our rooms, Yaletown is among the closest parts of our service area. The Yaletown counselling guide looks at burnout, high performance and couples with busy careers.
Fairview
Home to the hospital campus and the Broadway corridor, three Canada Line stops from Broadway-City Hall Station to Vancouver City Centre. Our Fairview counselling guide covers compassion fatigue, shift work and student stress.
South Granville
On the same street as our centre, just across the Granville Bridge, so buses heading north on Granville Street bring you close to our door. The South Granville counselling guide explores career transitions, grief and relationships.
Kitsilano
Across False Creek by bus or bike, with protected lanes on the Burrard Street Bridge. Our Kitsilano counselling guide explains body-aware approaches such as EMDR, somatic work and Internal Family Systems.
Mount Pleasant
Two Expo Line stops from Main Street-Science World to Granville Station, Mount Pleasant is a quick trip. The Mount Pleasant counselling guide centres neurodiversity-affirming care, identity and creative pressure.
Point Grey
Near the university, connected by buses along West 4th Avenue and Broadway, with the 99 B-Line meeting the Canada Line at Broadway-City Hall. Our Point Grey counselling guide addresses perfectionism, academic life and family pressure.
Vancouver West Side
Dunbar, Kerrisdale, Shaughnessy, Oakridge and beyond, linked by the Canada Line along Cambie Street, the R4 RapidBus on 41st Avenue and major bus routes heading north. The Vancouver West Side counselling guide focuses on families, couples and life stages.

Nearby Cities and Communities We Serve
Beyond Vancouver, our service areas include cities across Metro Vancouver. Many clients from these communities combine in-person sessions on days they are downtown with online sessions from home.
North Vancouver
The SeaBus from Lonsdale Quay lands at Waterfront Station, a short walk from our building, and the crossing itself can be a calm way to ease into a session. For busy North Shore weeks, online sessions are always an option. Our North Vancouver counselling guide has more.
Burnaby
The Expo Line runs from Burnaby stations such as Metrotown straight to Granville Station, and residents near Millennium Line stations can transfer to the Expo Line. See our Burnaby counselling guide.
New Westminster
Known as the Royal City, New Westminster sits on the Fraser River and on the Expo Line too, making a direct trip downtown possible. Visit our New Westminster counselling guide.
Richmond
The Canada Line connects Richmond with Vancouver City Centre and Waterfront stations, so the ride from Richmond-Brighouse runs straight downtown without a transfer. Read our Richmond counselling guide.
Surrey
Surrey’s Expo Line stations offer a direct ride downtown. Because the trip takes longer from much of this large city, online sessions are a practical choice for many Surrey clients. See our Surrey counselling guide.
Coquitlam
The Millennium Line and, on weekdays, the West Coast Express link Coquitlam with downtown, with stations such as Coquitlam Central and Lougheed Town Centre along the way. Our Coquitlam counselling guide explains options.
Port Moody
Known for its waterfront and Rocky Point Park, Port Moody is served by the Millennium Line and the West Coast Express. Read our Port Moody counselling guide.

Choosing In Person or Online for Your Service Area
There is no single right answer, and you can change your mind at any point. These questions can help you decide what suits your part of our service areas.
- How long is the trip? If getting downtown takes a big bite out of your day, online sessions may make therapy easier to sustain.
- Do you already come downtown? If you work or study nearby, in-person sessions may fit neatly into your week.
- How private is home? If you share a small space, our rooms may give you more freedom to speak openly.
- What kind of work are you doing? Couples sessions and some body-based approaches can feel more natural in the room, while many other kinds of therapy work well by video.
- What is your energy like? On low-energy days, skipping the commute can make it easier to show up.
Whatever you choose, your therapist, your plan and your free consult are the same across all the communities we serve.
Online Counselling Across British Columbia
If travel is not practical, online sessions extend our service areas across the province. These pages explain how it works:
- Online therapists at Thrive: meet the team members who offer video sessions.
- Online counselling in BC: support for clients anywhere in British Columbia.
- Online counselling in Metro Vancouver: for clients across the region.
- Online counselling in Vancouver: for city residents who prefer to meet from home.
Getting to 470 Granville by Transit
Our location beside the region’s main transit hub is a big reason our in-person service area reaches so far.
- Expo Line: Granville Station is steps away, with direct trains from Surrey, New Westminster and Burnaby.
- Canada Line: Vancouver City Centre and Waterfront stations serve riders from Richmond, the Cambie corridor, Fairview and Yaletown.
- Millennium Line: riders from Coquitlam and Port Moody can transfer to the Expo Line to reach Granville Station.
- SeaBus: crossings from Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver arrive at Waterfront Station.
- West Coast Express: weekday commuter trains from communities to the east end at Waterfront Station.
Use the TransLink trip planner to check current schedules. After hours, use buzzer #0518 or #0901 at the front door.
Planning Your First Visit From Farther Away
If you are coming from one of the cities in our wider service area, a little planning can make your first in-person visit smoother.
- Check the schedule: SeaBus and West Coast Express timetables differ from SkyTrain frequency, so plan around them.
- Build in a buffer: give yourself extra time the first time, so you arrive settled rather than rushed.
- Pair it with your commute: if you already travel downtown for work, a session before or after your workday can save a separate trip.
- Know your backup: if transit is disrupted or the weather is poor, ask whether that session can move online.
- Note the details: Suites 518 and 901, with buzzers #0518 and #0901 after hours.
Workplaces and Organizations in Our Service Areas
Thrive also supports teams, not just individuals. Our Thrive2Go mobile therapy brings counselling to organizations, workplaces and homes, and our workshops and team trainings cover topics related to stress, communication and mental health. We also work with people in first responder and high stress occupations across the communities we serve.
What Brings People to Thrive, Wherever They Live
Each community we serve has its own character, yet many concerns are shared across the region:
- Anxiety, low mood and burnout.
- Relationship strain, dating and couples work.
- Trauma and distressing memories, including EMDR therapy.
- ADHD, autism and neurodiversity-affirming support.
- LGBTQIA+ affirming care.
- Grief, life transitions and questions about direction.
- Addictions, sex therapy, and psychedelic preparation and integration support.
If you are in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911 in an emergency.
Different places, similar pressures
A founder in Yaletown, a nurse in Fairview, a parent in Coquitlam and a student in Point Grey may seem to have little in common. Yet many of the communities we serve share the same underlying strains: high costs of living, long hours, time away from family and the challenge of feeling truly connected in a busy region. Our local guides reflect those differences, while the care behind them stays consistent.
